1001 Nights Set
Client
Story Theatre's "1001 Nights"
Date
2021
This was a play for which I designed the set, the first time I worked on it they wanted me to decorate an existing framework that they had which was a big cube, for the play's second run they wanted me to build them a new framework that was better than the old one, lighter weight, safer in the wind, and more versatile. For this, I built a main middle base with modular accordion wings that folded out. The towers that I'd made got repurposed so that they could fold inward and be hidden until the wings opened and they sprang out like a pop up book. Unfortunately I don't have photos of this version of the set. For the third run of the play they used the main base that I'd built and used it in combination with 2 of the backdrop holders I'd built for "The Very First Circus" as wings. I also re-painted their boxes and made a throne. Everything had to be able to be easily and quickly assembled and disassembled and take up as little space in the van as possible, made to be set up in a school gym or field.
